About the company

We build tools that make chess easier to learn.

onlinechess is an education technology company based in Sikar, Rajasthan, India. We are building a chess learning platform that works in any browser, with no installation and no account required to start playing.

What we are building

Most people learning chess get stuck in the same place: they know how the pieces move, but not why one move is better than another. Our platform is designed to close that gap with interactive practice and guided lessons, so a beginner and a club player can both find something at the right level.

The playable board is live today. It runs a complete rules engine, a computer opponent at four strengths, tournament-style clocks, move history you can step through, and import and export in the standard PGN and FEN formats used by the rest of the chess world.

Where we are

On the roadmap

The current release is the playing and practice foundation. Next we are working on structured lessons, position-based puzzles, and review that explains where a game turned, so a player can see the mistake rather than just the result. Full platform launch is planned for August 2026.

How we build

The board is written in plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with no framework and no third-party runtime dependencies, which keeps it fast on modest hardware and low-bandwidth connections. The rules engine is verified against the standard published move-generation counts, and the whole project runs an automated test suite on every change. The source is available under the MIT licence.
