Terms of service

These terms apply when you use onlinechess.me. By using the site you agree to them.

Last updated 26 July 2026.

Who we are

onlinechess ("we", "us") is an education technology company based in Sikar, Rajasthan, India, contactable at manish@onlinechess.me.

Using the site

The site is free to use and needs no account. You may play, study, and export your games for personal or educational use, including in a classroom or club.

You agree not to:

Availability

We aim to keep the site available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend, or withdraw features, and we may take the site offline for maintenance. Because your game is stored in your own browser, planned maintenance does not remove your game.

Intellectual property

The onlinechess name and branding belong to us. The source code of the chess application is published under the MIT licence, and you are free to use it on those terms; the licence covers the code, not the brand.

Chess itself, and standard notation such as PGN and FEN, are not owned by anyone. Games you play and export are yours.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. In particular, we do not warrant that the computer opponent's evaluation of a position is correct, or that the site is free of defects. It is a learning and practice tool, not an authority on chess.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, including lost data, lost games, or lost rating on any other platform. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Rajasthan have jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any statutory rights you have as a consumer in your own country.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
